REEFTON SITTING. : (Our Own Correspondent.) A sitting of the Board was.held at the Courthouse. Reef ton, on Thursday, when . the following cases were dealt with Victor M E. Delladova, Three Channel Flat.-fsNo appearance. Dismissed, J, P. C. Fitzgerald. Mr Phillips ap- ; peared..and stated .that the appellant had made a mistake re attending the Medical ■- Board.—Adjourned till next sitting. M. M. Twomey, Cronadun,— No appearance. Dismissed. * Patrick Mohan, Reef ton—The Murray .Creek Goldmining Company appealed on behalf of appellant. Mr Patterson appeared for the Company and stated that the appellant was a winder and was practically indispensable. Meh could not be got for this position. ' j. Meehan said that Mohan had, been engaged at Murray Greek mine for "two years. They were now opening up the mine and had - now payable oio in sight. The assay value was over one ounce. They were employing twelve miners and truckers and two winders. The Board said that a miner would not he considered unless ho was in a producing mine. Mr Meehan said that .there were about 60,000 tons of stone in sight. They had no ibbni for 'storing stone. _ Hie battery manager's estimate of crushing was 1506 tons per month. Under the old battery the total tonnage treated was hOO tons. They had only two or three First Division men ' employed. There was a shortage of miners on the field ns well as miners. Lewis, Inungahun. —-Mr Lawry appealed on behalf of the Progress Company. R, Stewart; underground manager at the Progress Mine, said that Lewis was employed us horseman since Christmas. They were exceptionally short of truckers and had to tiike miners out of the face to do truckers’ work. It was difficult to get suitable men as bracomen, who send down the shaft men and material to attend to all the signals, If this man was taken they would have to lake the most suitable man from the mine. They employed about 76 men at the, mine. L. Simpson, Eeeflon.—Mr Lawry appealed on behalf of the Company. H. A, B Leipner. assayin' for the Com solidated Group, said that Simpson and a boy were employed at the assay works. Simpson was practically a competent assaver and had been in 'the assay works ‘for about seven years. It was impossible to carry on the’work without an assistant. the boy had been employed about a. year. He was employed about odd jobs. There was no one else on the field to take Simpson’s place. Formerly a man named Roycc was there. He was now employed at the Blackwatc mine. They had to get an assistant for the smelter from Australia. The mine had been short-handed for the past twelve months. The mine was profitable | when fully manned.
