FATAL ACCIDENT
WELLINGTON, This Day.— Barry ' Ryder, electric lineman, who was knocked down by a train at Lambton Station yard on Thursday evening, died in the hospital last night. BIG FIRE. NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day.— The biggest fire for over thirty years occurred this morning, when the Theatre Royal, G ovett Quilliams Buildings, A.M.P. Buildings (in process of demolition), Walter Bew ley’s, Hugh Bailey’s, Austin Bewley’s,. Montea,th’s offices, and J. B. McEwan and Co.’s warehouse were completely destroyed. Yeale’s (grocer) was gutted.A building on the opposite side of the street was damaged. The fire had a, good hold before it was discovered, and a high wind compelled the, firemen to devote their .attention to the buildings across the street- Tram service at the west nd of the town is interrupted. NO NEGOTIATIONS. DUNEDIN, This Day.—The “Star” states it has the authority of the managing director of the Union Steamship Company -to say that no negotiations with the P. and 0. Company have taken place.
