UPPER HUTT FIRE
EXPERT EVIDENCE. BY TELEGSAPII—PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, This Day. At tho inquest on the victims of the Upper Hutt explosion to-day, expert evidence was given. Professor Easteifield strongly supported the acetylene theory of the e plosion. He said that if a sufficient quantity of acetylene could be assumed to be inside the building there was no need to pro ceed with tho inquiry. He further held that 20 cubic feet of acetylene would, with a thcocraticul quantity of air, cause as violent an explosion as a boiler 10ft long and 6ft in diameter at a pressure of bOlhs to the square inch. Mr Wilford suggested that the experts be allowed to examine each other in turn, the Coroner to act as a jury and decide. It was impossible for laymen to examine experts, who knew too much.
