LINDRUM BEATS WILLIAMS. [per press ASSOCIATION--COPYRIGHT.] MELBOURNE, July 1. In the match LLndrum v. Williams the game resulted - Lmdrum 16,000 Williams 12,0/2 HARVERSON V. HIGGLE. Harverson 18,000 Higgle. 17,528 Biggie’s score included a break of 505.
Edward Higgle and Cecil Harverson, two of the world’s foremost billiard players, have entered upon a three months' tour of the* Commonwealth, and will play against each other in ail the important cities. Higgle is nearly a veteran now, and must be close upon the 50 years mark. He has scaled great heights in the billiard world, but has always stopped a little short of the top. Asked in Sydney what he thought of George Gray, Higgle said: “He.has done a lot of good for the game, in Eng land by bringing people into touch with the sport who might not otherwise have been interested. I must certainly confirm Lindrum’s view that he is not looking so well as he used toThe constant strain of making big breaks has told on him. He is much thinner.” Harverson says that he and Higgle are the convoy of a migratory band of English billiardists. The business manager will be Mr. Reece. Inman will be out early in July. During the tour of these players in Australia a rather unique- competition will be engaged in. “Just before we sailed from London Inman, Reece, Higgle, and myself,” added Mr. Harverson, “had dinner in London with Mr. Davis, of the Crystallite Ball Company. It was arranged between us that we put up £5 each to go into a prize for the man who made, the biggest number of. breaks over 300 during the six weeks in Australia. There was no stipulation as to the commencing dates- The Press of Australia will be relied on to compile the correct scores.” Lindrnm wall lie given an opportunity of going into the competition on condition that his -breaks are made with crystallite balls. The Crystallite Company are also donating a cup for the man who makes the highest score during the Australian tour.
