BACHELORS' BALL, RUNANGA
A brilliant success. This ball was held in the Miners’ Hall, on Friday evening, and proved a great success. * Weather and other conditions wore most favourable, and the gathering WHS a very large one. Besides bemg very popular locally, there were visitors t om Grey mouth, Hokitika, Nelson Creek, Ivumara, Brunnerton, Reefton, Blackball, Ngahere, and other parts of the Grey Valiev and altogether nearly five hundred people were in the building during the evenin'*. One hundred and sixty-five couples were on the floor during the same dance. The floor was in perfect order and dancing was made pleasant and easy to the largo number of patrons of the Ruiianga bachelors. At nine o’clock the grand march was opened by the orchestra, and was led by Miss Hvndman and Mr E. McGumness beneath'ribboned archways, and was a very imposing sight. During the evening Mr J. Ring, photographer of Greymouth, took flashlights of the company and obtained successful views- These may be obtained from Mr Rin*, also locally from Mr E. McGuinness° (President) or Mr M .Comerford (secretary) of the Bachelors’ Committee. The music was in the capable hands of Mr Munson (piano), Mr Waugh (vie.ml, Mr McDonald (cornet), Mr Rewiscm (piccolo), assisted by D linen. Nelson Creek, on the piano, and was all that could be desired for good dancing. During the evening Mr J .Budge, of Greymouth, danced a hornpipe, which was well received.
Agood supper was prepared and done full justice to, the catering being very efiiicently carried put by Mr A. Shannon, of Dunpllie. Mr K. . MtGuinncss "as an excellent master of ceremonies. Credit is also due to the ladies vvlio assisted at the supper, as the large number present word catered for with, the very minimum of trouble. The gathering was thoroughly appreciated by all, and the stage and every other available space was crowded with spectators. Dancing was kept up until an early hour in the morning.
