THE BOOT FANCY IN N.Z.

TELEGRAMS

ENGLISH MAKES LEADING

[BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL TO THE STAR.]

i CHRISTCHURCH, ThiS Day. A Christchurch boot importer, in conversation to-day, stated that there was a ! marked swing of public opinion in New ' Zealand in_ favour of the English boot. A- short time ago the American boot held the public fancy. It was not quite as .strong as the English boot, but it looked ♦better, was better finished, and was more comfortable, consequently it was sold in very large qualities. The English manufacturers now were employing American clickers and using American machines., with the result that, while retaining their- reputation for quality, they were producing a neat and handsome boot.
