SYNTHETIC RUBBER
AN IMPORTANT DISCOVERY

LONDON, June 18,
Professor Perkin, of Manchester, has announced the discovery of a synthetic rubber on a commercial scale, manufacturable at half-a-crown a pound, Which may he reduced to a. shilling. The fusel oil is produced from the starch in maize, and then converted into iSoprene, whence the rubber is extracted by contact with sodium.
