IN REPLY TO MR KENNEDY.

[to the editor.] Sir. —In answer to Mr Kennedy’s letter lo rny complaint I cannot forbear saying a few words, so that the construction he places upon it may be reversed in public opinion. The picture may or may not .have been in the company of .which be speaks, but it’was in the place in which his committee found it when making the decorations, and I contend that by covering or removing it they, the committee, showed at least a want of taste by doing so. It also left the impression that a modicum of spite was at the bottom. I don’t think Mr Michel would have felt aggrieved by speaking under it as he was just acting in the same manner as Mr S', would have done, viz., exerting his own great gifts to further his own interest. ■Vs for the proprietors’ conduct I have nothing to do. They, I suppose, acted according to their own lights. Should Mr Kennedy’s announcement prove a fact, and a new hall be built, no one would he more pleased than myself, as it would give substantial evidence to the hoped-for prosperity of our . little town. Thanking Mr Kennedy for the courteous manner of his reply, I am, etc., W. S. HANNA. Kumara, December 1, 1911.
