NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day.—Arrangements are almost completed in New Plymouth for a cycle road race round Mt. Egmout, a distance of about 120 miles, starting and finishing at the same point. The race will probably be run in August, about a fortnight prior to the Timaru to Christchurch race, and not less than £3OO will be given in cash and trophies, including a 50 guinea Britain cnallenge cup. ST. COLUMBA CLUB,

The annual meeting of the above club was held in the Club Rooms last evening, Mr. A. O’Donoghue, President of the St. Columba Club presiding. The annual report and balance sheet, which showed the Club to be in a flourishing condition, was read and adopted. It was decided to fix the annual sub at 3s, as the expenses in connection with the club were very small. Seven new members Avere elected and the prospects for the coming season are very bright. It Avas decided to open the season on Victoria Park to-morroAV afternoon, Avhen all members and intending members are requested to roll up for practice. The election of officers was A r ery keen every seal; being contested, the results being as follows : —President, Mr. A. F. O’Donoghue; vice-presidents, Messrs Keenan, Collogan, Blanchfield, Quinlan, Reid, J. Deere, P. Deere, Beirne, Hassell, Fogarty, Fitzgerald, and Martinengo; Captain, M. Keating; vice-captain, J. Condon; secretary, J. Deere; committee, McGrath, Hanrahan and Watson; selection committee, Captain, Vice-captain, McGrath; delegates to West Coast Hockey Association, Messrs McGrath and Keating.

There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Kumara'Hockey Club on Wednesday even ing, when the following officers were elected for the season ;—Patron, Dr. Phillips ; President, Mr. 'G. The entrance fee was fixed at 2s 6d and the colours of the Club “oil white.” It was decided to open the season tomorrow- and to join the West Coast Association, and also to ask the Borough Council to improve the reserve.

At the axemen’s carnival to be held at Kaiapoi, C. O’Rourke, the world’s champion chopper for the 18-in log. underhand Hop. will compete in the handicap events. He will also give an exhibition chop in an attemnt to lower his own world’s record. Chander and Pugh, two visiting axemen, will compete in a challenge match for £2O a-side, and the mamateur maiden championship of Westland, and they will also compete in the double hand sawing event. TENNIS. The final of the ladies’ championships will be claw'd on the Greymouth courts to-morrow afternoon. FOOTBALL. The first match to be played by_ the Greymouth Wharf Laborers’ Union ivohinoors will be against the State Collieries team on Victoria Park at 3 p.m. to-mor-row, when the admission will be sixpence, ladies free.
