MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY
Tli? usual weekly meeting of the above was held last evening- in the Forresters’ Hall, Mr J .K .Campbell being in tlie hair. There was a large attendance of members, while several new ones were proposed. After the business was disposed of, the subject set down for consideration for the evening. “The Credit System, its uses and abuses,” was ably handled by the members, several introducing some practical ideas as to dealing, with The matter. The general trend of opinion was that it would be a good thing if the whole system were abolished, and thus make people live according to their income, and so do away with the necessity of tradespeople putting a tax on those who pay (m the shape of a bad debt percentage) and thus let neople live cheaper. The subject next Wednesday night is a triangular debate, “Should the House of Lords be retained, reformed or abolished?” T’od? department of the debate has its champion, and a struggle should ensue as to whether the above institution should be tolerated, reformed or exterminated.
