It has been submitted to the Cabinet. The teport condemns the (shortcut scheme recommended by Mr Ferguson, i It. recommends a new pier at the point where Mr Ferguson recommended a short pier. It will he 1800 feet long by 210 ft wide, affording accommodation for four of the largest liners likely to come here. THE MISSING YVARATAH. MELBOURNE, This Day.—The Wakefield, the Wuratah search steamer, is limed to arrive here about May 25(h. THE CAPSIZE OF THE KOT. NELSON, April 8. The nautical enquiry into the foundering of the steamer Koi, when Hearing the Nelson harbour on March 30th. was held to-day before Mr Evans, S.M., and Captains McNab and Clark. Counsel represented Captain Scully, and the Collector of Customs appeared for the Marine Department. The evidence of the master was to the effect that 25 to 30 tons of cargo was taken aboard at Motueka and properly stored, and that a deck load of 282 sheep was hurdled in. He was not aware that the license to carry a deck cargo had expired. He took the usual course and experienced no trouble till near Nelson, when the vessel was struck and thrown on her beam ends by successive rollers and sent to the bottom. Witness was on the bridge at the time. The vessel was well found in every respect. The evidence of other members of the crew and harbormaster was in the direction of showing that everything possible was done to avert a casualty. The Court reserved its decision. THE CUNARD LINE.
