J'--- doclar. d thai Sir Edward Grey's speech on Mondaj' showed that the Government proposed to relax its; grip itpon the Budget hefore the veto \v;is settled. Ja electing Mr Gibbons (a magistrate) as their candidate, (he Liberals of Mid-Glamorgan bitterly protested against the Master of the Elibank advising them net to oppose the Labour Party. The .Master of the Elibank replies that, the South Wales Miners Federation repeatedly resolved to abstain from supporting the Labour Party while Thomas A. Evans adhered to the general political programme of the Federation, but whenever a vacancy occurred, to contest the seat against all corner's.
Mr Redmond, speaking at Newcastle, said he was perfectly sure a general election would take place in a few weeks.
PLENTY OF ROCKS AHEAD. Received this day at 3.45 a.m. The dissatisfaction with Sir Edward Grey's speech is ncreasing. Tlio Liberids complain that ho has dispelled all hopes of adjusting the difficulties with Nationalists. Sir Edward's declaration that the Government intend to proceed with the reform of the House of Lords is extremely distasteful to the Labour party. The Standard states that Sir Edward (.'rev and Mr R. H. Haldane -4 Wolverhampton, and Mr Kenna and Lord Crewe insist on combining reform with the limitation of the Lords power of veto. The British Weekly complains that the Government intends to spring upon the Nation a scheme for reforming the Lords and the introduction of the budget together with a certainty of defeat and that they tire apparently determined not to approach the King. The enthusiasm of the non-conform-ists for the Government is nearly worn out.
