The Citizens’ Band plain and fancy dress ball, which takes iidace in the Public Hall to-morrow evening, promises to be the most successful yet held by the hand. The music is in the capable hands of Messrs Perotti (piano), Richardson, (violin), Beckman (cornet), and Reid (drums). Three well-known gentlemen will act as judges for the fancy costumes and will award the prizes to the best dressed lady ana gentleman. The Golden Arch Gold Mining Company, Limited, has been registered under the Mining Companies Act with a capital of £4,125 in 16,500 shares of 5s each. Mr Joseph Steele has been appointed Secretary to the Company, with registered office in Bridge street, Rccfton. The erection of a ten-head battery at the mine near Capleston is well advanced, and that of the cyanide plant also. The surface coi.slructions are being erected by day labour, and the mine is developing very promisingly. Crushing operations are expected to he started in a few weeks. The usual tri-weekly tournament of the St. Columba Club was held in the dub rooms last evening, when a very pleasant evening was spent. The ladies’ prizes were won by Miss Bourke and Miss Power while Mr P. Power won the gent’s prize, and Mr Sherwood the consolation. Songs were given by Mrs Pope, Messrs Williams, Mullins, Mackay, Casey and recitations by Messrs Smythc, McGrath and Condon. Refreshments were then handed round, and a very pleasant evening was brought to a close by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” 'The Grey Cricket Club open the season next Saturday by playing a friendly game with the Mawliera C.C.
