REEFTON HIGH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

(By Our Own Correspondent.) The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Committee was held last evening there being present Messrs Shepherd (Chair), Noble, Cooper, Pankhurst, Banks, Castle, Scantlobury and Rev Mr Calcier. From Secretary of Education Board stating that the Board had accepted Miss Mullen’s resignation as Assistant teacher from 31st August.

From Secretary of Education Board advising that a sum of £7 10s had been granted for repairs to fence etc. From Secretary of Education Board with regard to consulting (he Committee as to the appointment of Miss T. O. Garth to the position of assistant teacher in (ho School rendered vacant by Miss Holler’s resignation. From A. A. Hint/., Director of Tech nical School, re his recent visit to Reefton also enclosing a copy of a letter forwarded to the Tnangahua County Council asking for a grant for iho Technical School .

From Head master enclosing report for the month of .June ns follows:

June Ist 112 hoys, 89 girls, tolal 201 ; on Juno 30(h 113 boys, 83 girls, total 201. Average attendance 96.6 boys, 71.7 girls, total 168.3 per cent. Secondary Class. No on roll, Juno Ist, 12 boys 7 girls, total 19- on June 30th 9 boys, 7 girls, total 16; average attendance 9.4 boys, 5.5 girls total 14.9 equal to 84.8 per cent. ; also advising the sum of £2 13s 6d had been contributed towards the fuel fund for the month.

Proposed by (he Chairman and seconded by Mr Scantlebury, and carried, that Miss Holler’s resignation having been notified to the Committee through the Education Board, the members of the (School Committee desire to place on record their appreciation of .Miss Holler’s many years of faithful service at the Reefton School.

Proposed by Rev. D. Colder, second ed by Mr Cooper and carried, that the Committee heartily concur with the appointment of Miss Garth to the position of Assistant Mistress.

Proposed by Rev D. Cal dor, seconded by the Chairman and carried, that the Commitco desire to send iis heartiest support to the letter before the Inangahua County Council ro the vote to technical School. The Committee consider the Technical School to be of (he greatest possible advantage to the children attending all the schools of the district, and especially where the equipment is thoroughly up to-date as it is believed our Technical school will be made with the help of this grant.

Proposed by Mr coper seconded by Mr Noble and carried, that the action of the Technical Director in overriding the appointment by the Board of Miss Hodjson to tho staff of the Technical School (this appointment having been but recently made after consultation with the Technical School Executive) be strongly condemned as showing a lack of consideration for that Executive Further that the Committee ask the Board to vortify the matter in accordance with the Committee’s wishes.

The Visiting Committee reported that everything at the School was in a satisfactory state with the exception of the main drain which required immediate attention.

Messrs Castle and Cooper were rcappoited the Visiting Committee for the ensuing month. The meeting then adjourned.
