WEST COAST BOXING ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the West Coast Boxing Association was held at the Albion Hotel j on Friday evening last. There were prosci'.t; Dr McKay (in the chair), Messrs Perkins, Keddull, Harris, Fogarty, D. McKay, Russell and Steuhouse. Correspondence was read from the Secretary of the New Zealand Boxing Council relative to what had been done in connection with the Parliamentary Committee’s recommendation; also intimating that under the proposed new constitution the Canterbury Centre would consist of Westland, Ree'fton, Canterbury, South Canterbury and Timaru Associations. The proposal was also made that the committee of the Canterbury Association should be appointed the Centre Committee with a view to saving expense. A great deal of discussion took place as to the present position of the Association, and it was generally considered very vague, and until it is cleared up it will bo impossible to proceed with the arrangements in connection with the annual compel it ions. The Secretary was eventually instructed to write t otbo Secretary of the Now Zealand Boxing Council, statins — “If wo wish to hold boxing competitions say in August or later, wo would like a reply to the following questions:— (1) Would wo be able to hold same under conditions that prevailed last year —i.e., to frame our own programme. (2) Would wo be at liberty' to put on a professional contest for a purse?” It was resolved to bold the annual meeting of the Association after a reply had been received to the above enquiries.
