The following is the text of Tlr Deakin’s cable (sent through Lord Northeole to Lord Elgin) in reference to the Natal question:—“Since intervention on the part of tho Ministers of the United Kingdom with the administration of (he selfgoverning colony of Natal would lend (o establish, even with regard to the prerogative of pardon, a dangerous precedent, affecting all States within the Empire, wo respectfully appeal for the reconsideration of the resolution which they (the Home Ministers) are reported to have arrived at on the matter.” Mr Denkin says the reason why lie withheld thc text of this telegram in (he first place from the public was that he was anxious that his action should not he used for party purposes in England.
