AHAURA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) Some time ago a move was made in th direction of putting a Hindi protective works to ihe Ahaura bridge. The planks were carted along to the site, and dumped down, and it, was anticipated that advantage would be taken of the fine weather t<> get on with the work. Those who have seen ihe Ahaura in Hood will recognise how important tliis.-work is, and the 'blay may yet prove of serious consequent c to the approach to the bridge, us well u> to private property alongside, which was damaged to a considerable extent by ih "old mail" flood of last year. Tho Shellback dredging syndicate are to be congratulated on the good order in which their dredge is kept. They are now making good headway Oil their return cut and it is surprising the amount of ground that this dredge has turned over for tin past- fiix months. After purchamng tin dredge the present svndicate decided .<■ discard the elcfttor and screen and put in a sluice box. The result has proved y great success and the wear and tear iconsequently now reduced some 75 per cent. To say that the Northern Star potato.-:-will not .stand the blight is not borne out l,v the splendid crop that Harry llrook man «ol from four roots'. The seed in tin first place consisted of two small potatoc: cut in half, from which he has got a fine Kimple of potatoes weighing some 351!>s These potatoes wens grown in others that caught the blight, l.ut the dn ease had no effect on the Northern Stars
