SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION.

Blackball.

The general meeting to appoint the above school committee was very poorly attended last evening, perhaps in consequence of the wet night. The balancesheet showed £lO to the good—a substantial Slim to begin the year's operations with. A vote of thanks was passed to .the outgoing committee. The following persons were then duly elected: Dr. Millington, Messrs. M. Moore, W. Francis, W. AVoollcn, A. Eiddiford, W. Noilson and Geo.Glasson.

At the committee meeting held after the election Mr. Moore was re-elcctod as chairman, Mr. Woollen was elected treasurer and Mr. Geo. Grasson secretary. Ngahere. The following were elected members of the committee: —James Scott, James O'Brien, George Hill, A. Dempsey, P. King, Colin Algic and Joseph Scott. Mr Joseph Scott was elected chairman and secretary. No Town. The following committee were elected: —Patrick Fallon, Michael Malone, George Howe, P. Peterson, and William Malone. Mr Michael Malone was elected Chairman. Greenstone, The following were elected a committee ._s. P. Harris, William Whitton, M. Aynsley, John Wills, James Cowan, and A. W, Troy, S. B. Harris was elected Chairman. Tayloryille. The Taylorville Committee presented the following report at the general meeting:—

lii presenting this report before you to-night it is our pleasing duty to say that everything lias gone on smoothly between the Head Teacher and the Committee. There have been ho complaints laid before the Committee during the past year. The results from the last examination have been very satisfactory, the school has gained over 90 per cent., which is very good, and the pxipil teachers have all passed in their last examinations, and one scholar gained a scholarship this year which speaks well for the school. The average attendance during the year was 105 but there ought to have been more and your committee would recommend very- strongly upon the new Committee and upon the parents present, the necessity of sending their children more regularly to school as it would be more beneficial to both teachers and scholars. Your committee have done several repairs about the school dining the year, but there is still room for improvement in the play-ground which wants attending to as soon as possible, and as there is a vory good balance in hand a few pounds could be well spent in this direction.

The report was read and adopted. The following were elected unopposed for the committee for the ensuing year: —Messrs J. Noble (chairman), J. Walton (secretary), G. Kowlands (treasurer), and J. Ward, T. Watchman, P. Nyberg, 13. Waite, T. liobinson and W. Stevens. Dobson. Owing to the small number of householders attending the meeting at Dobson on Monday night, no school committee was elected. Stillwater. The following were elected the committee for the ensuing year : —Messrs J. O'Donnell (chairman and treasurer), W. Shanahan (secretary), and J. Johnston, J. Kundberg, H. O'Donnell, T. Moriarty and J. H. Coop, Kumara. The annual meeting of householders for the purpose of receiving the report of the outgoing committee and electing a new one for the ensuing year, met in the Kumara .State School on Monday night. There was a good attendance of householders, some 25 being present. The Rev. E. Whitehouse was voted to the chair. The secretary read a lengthy report, one pleasing feature of which was the fact that the committee was able to announce a credit balance (though small) at the end of the financial year. This is acrfcainly an exception to a somewhat general rule among local bodies in Westland. The figures as given are : —lncome (exclusive of teachers' salaries) £ll7 lGs (3d ; expenditure, £ll7 13s lid, leaving a credit balance of 2s 7d. As all the staff of the school came in for a word of praise, the best of feeling evidently prevails between the school teachers and the committee. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr. Henham, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. A vote of thanks to the outgoing committee was acknowledged by tiie chairman, who thanked those present for the vote.

The following were then elected on (lie new committee :—Messrs. G. 11. findkin, Thos. Jones, J. S. Benyon, G. Haymes, Rev. E. Whitchonso, W. Campbell, Rev. J. R. Clarke, I' 1 . Smith and T. Marks.

At a subsequent meeting of the new committee Mi', Rudkin was elected chairman, and Mr. J. S. Benyon secretary and treasurer.

Resolved that meetings he held first Monday in each month.
