PRINTERS' TROUBLES.

Two recent police prosecutions under section 5 of the Printers and Newspapers. Registration Act, 1868, was dealt with by the Magistrate this morning. In the case of Edward Johnson, charged with having within the space of six months printed a paper without printing therein his name and place of abode. Dv Macarthur dismissed the information on the grounds that the offence charged was not committed within six months. Kobcrt Wright was similarly charged. The Magistrate held that the paper in question ("Final notice to debtor") did not come under the exemptions stated in section 9, and in the circumstances inflicted the minimum allowed by the Statute of £5 for one cop 3% with 7s costs. The Magistrate indicated that he would be prepared to recommend the granting of -an application for a reduction of the fine.
