V T,.lie. County Council is inviting .tenders for various works. We regret to record the death of ./Mrs Salisbury, wife of Mr A. G. Salisbury, the well-known dentist :of Takaka and Collingwood, which took place at Takaka this morning, •after about a fortnight’s illness. The Children’s Anniversary service held in the Public Hall on Sunday evening last was fairly well attended, and the singing of special hymns was highly appreciated by the congregation. A deputation from the Auckland Railway League waited 011 the Minister of Public Works (Hon R. McKenzie) on Wednesday, urging that the scope of the Ro>al Commission to be set up to inquire, into the proposed deviation on the North Auckland railway route, should be extended. The proceedings were very live’y. Mr McKenzie declined to accede to the request, saying it had been made too late. Mr Mander, M.P., challenged Mr McKenzie to prove that the western route was the shortest, cheapest, and best, and said he would, put £ 1000 up if the challenge were accepted. A passage-at-arms took place between Mr Mander and the Minister, the latte** threatening to have the member for Marsden ejected from the room.
