An Irishman's Dilemma. It wsb Michael Donan who walked into the sick room of Patrick Kelly. Patrick lay there very pale, with his eyes closed, and heard Michael exclaim: “Howly Moses, Pat, it’s murtherin’ ill ye’re lookin’! Fwbat in the name av th’ kraken’a the matther ?” “• Miohael Donan, an’ is it yourself?” “ Yis.” “ Well, yez knows that blatherin’ spalpeen av Widdy Costigan’s second husband ?” “That, I do.” “He bet mo a crown to a pint l couldn’t schwally an igg wid out brakin’ th’ shell av it.” “ Naw ” “ Yis.” “Did ye do it?” “ 1 did.” “ Then fwhat’s ailin’ ye ?” “ It’s doon there ” —laying his hand on his stomach. '■ If [ joop about I’ll br’ak it an’ out me stummick wid th’ sholl. If I kape quiet the thing’ll hatoh oot, an’ I’ll have a Shanghai rooster a-olawin’ me inside.”
