AORANGI’S ESCAPE

BLOWN OFF HER COURSE CAust, and N.Z. Cable) Sydney, March i The Aorangi’s sailing, was not devoid) of incident. Caught by a heavy gust of wind as she was leaving Darling- Harbour, the ship was carried off her course- and approached dangerously near ferry boats moored at Blue’s Point on the opposite side of the harbour. Anchors were dropped as the ship neared the shallow water. These checked her way, and the tugs which rushed to the spot were able, with the help of the ship’s own engines, to get the Aorangi clear and on her course again to pass under the bridge. The excitement lasted 20 minutes, during which time the crew and passengers haci plenty to occupy their attention. Wm. Orr returned to the ship for New Zealand.
