MOTORIST FINED
DANGEROUS DRIVING PAST RACEHORSES ON ROAD LICENSE CANCELLED (Aust.. and N.Z. Cable) Mellwmrne, February 26 Robert Skelton of South Kensington pleaded, not guilty to three charges laid by Archibald McNeill, a. stableman for J. T. Jamieson, trainer in charge of the £3OOO racing filly, Myra Tip, that lie used insulting words, drove in a manner dangerous to the public, and backed bis car unduly. McNeill said that Skelton drove past him and his charges, Myra Tip and another, at 40 miles an hour. Witness called out, and Skelton backed toward him, asking if he wanted all the road. Myra Tip was frightened anl swerved round. Skelton then drove his ear back.at witness, threatening to kill his horse for him. Skelton kept hacking and going ahead till Myra Tip was thoroughly seared, and eventually slipped down on her books, and witness was in danger oi being injured. Jack Hall, groom, said that Skelton drove at Myra Tip, trying to injure her. Skelton gave evidence that McNeill jerked the mare’s head, causing her to slip on her hocks. Skelton was convicted of driving in a dangerous manner and using insulting words. On the first count a fine of £lO was imposed, with £5 7s costs, and the defendant’s motor licence cancelled for six months. On the second charge he was fined £5, with 8s costs.
