SWIMMING SPORTS

Last Night’s Carnival GREAT CROWD KEEN COMPETITION Few towns put on uu evening sports programme equal to that of the Carnivals organised by the EeiUling Amateur Swimming Club anil no town gets the support from swimmers and the general public that Feililing gets. East night's carnival was another marked, success. There was a record entry and the spectators were present in great force. The carnival was officially opened by a bright speech from Mayor Taylor. wSfo complimented the Club and the crowd on the success of the meeting. His Worship made a hit when he referred to the three families of Feililing that had done and were still doing so much for swimming—the Fades, the Ilewes and the Sporles. Mr Taylor paid a well deserved tribute to the secretaryship of Miss Bertha Dewe and the fostering of the art of swimming amongst the children by Mrs. E. 11. Fisher—remarks that were received with applause.

Swimming in the 220 yards cqxeii handicap, E. Smith, of Feililing, holder of the breaststroke championship for this event, broke the record by nearly two seconds. His time was itmin. 2 2-osee., against his record of 3min. 4sec. He received an ovation from the crowd on the announcement being made. Thu Kangitikei Cup, held by P. Fade, of Feililing. was captured by the Dannevirke champion. D. Eindsay, who won the event comfortably. CAR XIV AI, OFFICIALS Patron, Mr. J. G. Eliott; Controller, Mr. O. C. SiKirle; Starter, Mr. J.
