PRACTICAL TRAIN ING INDICATION BY MINISTER (Per Press Association) Christchurch, February 27 Gradually, by the introduction of more facilities for practical training, the system of education in New Zealand is being changed. In the past, paramount importance, has been placed upon the academic side of school training, but the Minister of Education (Hon. R. Masters), speaking at the official opening of the Shirley intermediate school, indicated that liis department had alreadybroken away from that tradition and without underestimating the value and necessity- for .academic training, was planning to establish a more practical form of education than New Zealand had previously- known. Agriculture, for instance will be taught in the agricultural districts .and mining in the mining districts.
