TIIE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Mesdames W .1. Smith, J. Sliortali. \V. L Smith and X. Sliortali were tire hostesses at the first meeting of Uolyton Women’s Institute held in the hall yesterday, when a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. The “Ode to Friendship” was sung and the President. Mrs. Bearson. welcomed, all members. Mrs. Dowriok gave an interesting talk on herbs and their medicinal powers. Miss Viles demonstrated the making- pineneedle baskets and many were commenced by the younger members*. Tbrh Mrs. Do wrick and Miss Viles were accorded a hearty vote of thanks It; was decided to semi a delegate to the half-yearly council meeting to be held in Woodville. A competition was won by Miss’ Id. Walke.y At. the next meeting there is to he a roll call on “The flower 1 would like best as my Institute flower and why.” There is also to lx» competition for an article made for loss ilmn one shilling and a bring and buy stall. The hostesses for the November meeting are Mesdames Algie and Alii'l by and ?.!isses Burr and Adsett.

The meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
