AID UNDER. 4A SCHEME DECISION OF BOARD An -assurance that distressed farni.«a*s who prefer to work <jn their owjjl properties rather than, go <m relief works would he given financial assistance under the 4a scheme, has been given in a letter received by Mr C. L. Carr, Labour member for Tiiitaru, from the acting-Mintster of Employment, Hon. A. Hamilton. “I have io advise you.” Mr Hamilton says. “ that where farmers have placed tueir position before the I nemployment Board 'and pointed out that> they have no option but to seek relief work because of choir incomes being insufficient to provide thorn and their families, witf-i the necessities of life on account of their pro* pel ties not being sufficiently developed, the assistance of the Dcparrmemt of Land a«nd Survey Hrafc been obtained with a view to determining whether such farmers could improve their properties and become selfsupporting, if they were retained thereon j.n preference to giving; them relief work under the No. 5 scheme If satisfactory report* are received, sued farmers are retained on their own properties under the 4A scheme and .are given a. subsidy up to the maximum amount of according to HLeir cirdumslt-alnc©s, aVrul the number of persons dependent upon them.** *
