BURSTING OF A DAM
DAMAGE IN RHINELAND Nearly 200 ft. of the dame of a large reservoir containing waste water of a mine near Berglscli-Gladbaeh ia the Rhineland gave way recently, whereupon some 20.000 cubic yards of liquid mud poured downhill as far as the valley of the River Agge.\ A large section of tlie main road from Cologne to Dipt* is flooded with mire and may he bloeked for some time. A valley near Rergiseli-Glad-bacli is converted into n lake of mire and some cattle in a flooded farm perished. The supply of long-dis-tance gas from Bergisclie-Gladbach to he valley of the Agger lias been interrupted in several places with tlie result that some villages are now without gas. The autlioriteis Issued a general watrning to-night against bathing in tlie River Agger, as its water has been found to contain poisonous matter.
