The Lirnond colt gave a splendid exhibition of galloping ability, combined with grit, which bespeak further successes. Autopav made a splendid bid for victory in tho Shorts Handicap, but found the weight beyond him. Silver Ring then took charge of affairs, only to be beaten in tlie last few strides by Lightning March. The weather was fine and the track in excellent order. The - attendance was 46,000. The horses concerned were Queen Sol. Winera, La justice and Bonnie June. The riders, Donoghuc, Davidson and Stead, escaped with contusions and shock, but Lightfoot received concussion of- the brain and probable fracture of the skull. The horses escaped injury excepting Bonnie June, whose head was injured., T he stewards held an inquiry, and decided that J. Pike, rider of Burracootboo, v. as guilty of interference in cutting across too sharply. Pike was suspended for two months, which will prevent him from taking part in the Melbourne Cup meeting. Training gallops at Caulfield took place in fine weather. Ammon Ra gave Hard Words a good start over six furlongs on the grass, taking 1.15 J, and they finished together. The veteran is still hale and hearty and received many congratulations from his friends.
