“LASCA” AT THE TIVOLI See the thrilling play this evening, livery reciter knows .“Lasca.” This dramatic poem ha s been enlarged into “Lasca of the Rio Grande” as a cinema talkie and is at the Tivoli to-night, with Leo Carillo, John Mack Brown, Dorothy Burgess and ■Slim Summerville in its principal rolcg. The story concerns a darkeyed senorua of the dance halls, a tenderly murderous cattle owner who likes beautiful women, and a handsome Texas ranger in love. The picture i s packed to the brim with hard riding, bellowing guns, lilting Spanish melodies, and romantic scenes, and is a photographic classic. The picture will appeal . to all tastes. REGENT THEATRE Clive Brook, the English actor, is iu a most notable talkie, “Shanghai Express,” a story of love and adventure, in which Marlene Dietrich plays the part of Shanghai Lily, a woman who lives by her wits in the coast- cities of the Orient as a “coaster.” The original by Harry llervey. a master of fiction literature having an Oriental flavour. In addition, a special added stage attraction, Abdy’s annual circus, a clever turn with dogs, monkeys, cats and birds. Also No. 7 Bobby Jones golf series. KOSY THEATRE Robert Woolsev, who is with Bert Wheeler, discovered that he smoked at the. rate of a yard of cigars a day during the filming of RKO-Radio Picture, “Peach o’ Reno.” The comedian, who is never seen without a cigar in his pictures, prefers the ■six inch kind. Six of these a day make a yard of tobacco.
PALACE THEATRE Do not miss this house to-night. William Powell, always popular, is to appear at the Palace to-morrow in his latest play, “The Road to Singapore.” In this he has a most powerful part. The locale is in the jungles of Ceylon, there is a strong love element, with a woman who forsook her husband to follow her lover down the swaying road to Singapore. Doris Kenyon plat s the woman.
