RAIN NEEDED

MANAWATU DISTRICT VERT DRY Last week good rains fell in the districts north of Waiata. Cheltenham, and in the Stanway and Waituna. areas, but on the lower lands there was practically no rain fall, and tlie pastures a.nd erop s are suffering severer. Close around the Feilding district and in the Manawatu the summer ha s been the driest for many years. Tn tlie Apiti and Rangiwahia districts there have been good rains during the summer, a n,d the farmers are not complaining. During the past week the rain« close to the mountain ranges have been heavy, and the Oroua river has had several “freshes.”
