DIKING PAST MONTH THE ENGINEER’S REPORT Importing for February tlie Borough Engineer says: The following footpaths have been repairer! and surfaced with bitumen: Canulen (Street, Beattie Street sto Denbigh Street. Denbigh Street, York Street to Niurth Road. York Street, Denbigh Street to Derby Street- Grey Street, Beattie Street towards Denbigh Street. The Duke Stret bridge surface ■has also been repaired and surfaced with bitumen. Repairs- were carried out to the decking of the Denbigh Street bridge and the approaches surfaced with bitumen. Tlie grader lias been in frequent use on the undermentioned l oads: West Street, Awahuri road, Makino road, Beattie Street, Grey Street, Denbigh Street, Derby Street and Pbarazyn Street, and 54 loads of refuse were reunoved.

Gladstone Street, railway crossing: As requested, I 'have gone into tlie matter of improving the footpath facilities at the Gladstone Street railway crossing and would suggest that the footpath formed some months ago be asphalted and continued across Haybittle Street nad to the bitumen road jn Aorangi Street. Also that the intersection cf Gladstone Street and Aorangi Street be asphalted t° met the bitumen road oil the south west side. Th& would t’mn provide an asphalt crossing from the footpath in Aorangi Street to the footpath in Haybittle Street- A kerb and channel will be required for a short distance on tlie approaches to the lines. The work could be carried out at a> cost of £43. I submit a- plan of fbe proposed work. Parking: As authorised at hist Council meeting nose in parking has been given a trail as from March Ist.

Parking areas have been defined by white lines at an angle of 45 degrees to the kerb, and provision lias bo for 105 ears. Usual maintainance work has been carried out in the reserves. The hedge at the railway reserve, front ing Aorangi street, lias been removed and it is proposed making a flower bed jn its place. Cemetery: The Sexton has been employed cleaning up u.nd burning rubbish, and attending fo paths and drains.
