SLIPPER AND HIS APPEAI

(Aust. and N.Z. Cable) Apia, March 4. Sentence of three months imprisonment. with a fine of .£lO5, was yesterday imposed by Chief Judge Luxford upon Thomas Benjamin Slipper, barrister and .solicitor, on charges’of publishing a defamatory libel against His Excellency the Administrator, and of using abusing and insulting words in respect of a member of the Legislative Council of Western Samoa, the Administrator. Mr S. S. Allen.

Defendant who had been held in custody during the period of the trial, sought leave to appeal to the New Zealand Supreme Court, a few days after sentence was pronounced, and upon this being granted, he was released on bail of subject to certain restrictions as to conduct and movement. The appeal cannot he heard before three months.
