MANAWATU TROTS The annual trotting meeting of the Manawatu Club is to be held oil the Ashhurst racecourse on Wednesday next, and a good programme for pacers nad trotters is provided for followers of the light harness sport. The first race will start at 12 o’clock and the last race is timed to start at 4.50 p.m. A special train will leave Palmerston North for Ashhurst at 10.30 a.m., returning at 5.50 p.m. The Ashhurst course is reported to be in splendid order and it only re-, quires a fine day for patrons to enjoy a good day’s sport. The gate charges are on a liberal scale, viz., front gate 2s, gent’s to lawn S IS , while ladies are admitted free to the lawn. Attached to the Manawatu Trotting Club iMate Handicap is a very handsome silver tea and coffee service, which will go to the winner of that race. The trophy has been presented to the club by two vicepresidents, Messrs J. K. Anderson and H. J. Woodfieldi

Jokeform has joined R. Brough’= stable at Hawera. Aberfeldy may, be a starter in the Highweight events at Trentham. He is working well at Riccarton. Spoon’s two brilliant wins in Canterbury recently will birng her sire Tea Tray into favour again. Head Serang is already being picked off as a .likely winner of the Winter Cup, Great Lady, who has been out spelling, has linked up with W Bailey’s team at Awapuni. Recent reports from Sydney state that Chide continues to please his trainer, F. T. Cush, Black Maire is reported to be working well on the tracks at To Aroha. Zeuxis has rejoined F. Christmas’ team and will be got ready for jumping races. Though Pedestal’s public form has been very disappointing all this season, W, Raynor is keeping him going, and the Thespian gelding will be take pto Trentham in company with Drastic.

Archeen has been sold by Mr N. Quirk, of Te Aroha, to Messrs Whitmore and Armstrong, of Whangarei.

Thursby, who has been spelling for a couple of months, is now being hacked about, prior to resuming work again at Ellerslie.

Ruling Chief, the three year old colt by Chief Ruler from Boynette, who is fn A. Tinker’s stable at Te Rapa, will be seen out at the Wellington meeting this month

Hard Words, who has been racing prominently of late, is engaged at tile forthcoming Wellington meeting, and has been awarded 8.12 in the Plunket Nursery Handicap. - The way Ceremony is hitting out on the tracks at Wanganui makes ; t look as if he will be back to his best form at Easter, when he will race at Ellerslie..

P. V. Mason’s stable will be represented at the Wellington meeting by Jaloux and Swiftray, both of whom are still in the New Zealand St. Leger Stakes.

Full Feather, Hurly Burly, Ball Dress and Waterline will represent, Sir George Clifford at the Wellington meeting, and later at the Manawatu Racing Club’s fixture.

The three wins secured by members of Gieseler’s team at Gore make his total for this season' 19, and places him third on the list of winning trainers.

Mr 11. Murphy, it is understood, paid a substantial sum for Cimabue, but he has proved a bargain by winning close on 5000 sovs. for bis new owner.

Mister Gamp is reported to be working well on the tracks at Avvapuni. The Bronzetti gelding will make his next appearance at the Wellington meeting this month.

Panola, who beat Gay Ballerina in the Bourke Handicap at the V.R.C. meeting on Tuesday, is a full sister to Vertigern. She is one of George Price’s team.

Two of Mr FI Armstrong’s youngsters in Chief Cook (Chief Ruler—Cherry Pie) and Chief Kaiser (Chief Ruler —Kaiserine) have been taken in hand by Mrs A. McDonald, at Awapuni. With four successive wins to his credit over hurdles Whenuanui is coming into prominence as a jumper. He is an aged gelding by Acre from Bell Boy, and is trained by WMantle at New Plymouth. It is stated that Cimabue will not be a starter in either the Thompson Handicap or the Railway Handicap on the first day of the Wellington autumn meeting, but will contest the North Island Challenge Stakes Paganelli has been getting just enough work on the tracks at Te Rapa to keep well. The Lord Quex eglding is to do his next racing at the meeting of the Wellington Club this month. R. E. Coveney’s suspension will expire next Wednesday and he will be riding at the Wellington meeting. In addition to handling Sir George Clifford’s horses, he will be on Flair in the Railway Handicap on the opening day. ( George Price has six New Zealandbred horses in his stable. They are: Gestro, Peacemaker, Veilmond, ComYnendation, Super Ruler (Chief Ruler —Boynette), and Greenmantle (Kilbroney—Mascot. Tidal is also under his care. When Coronet won the Newmarket Handicap in 1885 he landed jC 3S> OOO in bets for his owner, Mr D. M. Roberts, and that sport also had him going in the Australian Cup as the second leg of his double, and would have gathered in ,£75.000 had Coronet been good enough to win, which he failed to do.
