Wright asked th e Minister of Mines to look into tile matter and ascertain what the results were. Mr D. G. Sullivan (Avon) : We are making gold in Christchurch! Mr Wright-: "They make a good many mistakes in Christchurch, and I think the present claims will be a mistake, too.” (Laughter). Had any gold been found as a result of the grant for prospecting? h 0 asked. Mr G. C. Black (Motueka) : Absolutely. Mr Wright said lie had been brought up in a gold-mining district, and his experience was that it cost mor e to win the gold from the ground than it was worth.
