A easo before Ibo Paddington Police Court is creating interest in racing circles. Three women, Margaret Summerbell, Marion Moody and Elvira Petersop. are complainants against Frank Bennett. (40) and Lon Houston (24), charged with conspiring to defraud the women named of large sums of money. Tile women’s story is that they entrusted sums totalling £SOO for investment to Bennett, and Houston, who from time to time declared that they had sure things at the races. In fact, they had the fields “ tied up.” The women were told on a number of occasions that they had won and wer e persuaded to leave the winnings with the defendants, who eventually told the women that their total winnings amounted to about £24,000. When the defendants were finally pressed to hand over the supposed winnings they disappeared. Tile hearing was adjourned.
