FROM RANK TO ROYALTY
Amanullah’s final flight from the throne, to exile and his decision to try
Italy for a change is just another illustration of the. quick changes and romances of the far off countries. Last year Amanullah and Souriya, as King and Queen of Afghanistan, were feted throughout Europe and m England. Immediately on his return to Iris homeland Amanullah introduced drastic reforms' modelled on European habits and customs. The Afghans revolted, and during the turmoil a. chief of brigands, Rnccha. Sacebo (sounds like a bag of sugar!), came down from the mountains, took possession of the capital city, proclaim-ed-himself King of the Afghans—and go lie is to-day! Only a few years ago a soldier in the ranks of the Shah of Persia thought the time was ripe for a national revolt against a, monarch who preferred the luxury of Paris to the responsibilities of ruling Persia. To-day that monarch is in exile— Amanullah may moot him in Rome or Paris!—and the soldier from the ranks is ruling Persia. A few ago Trotsky, a rank outsider, became equal partner with Lenin in ruling Russia Lenin is dead and. Trotsky is in exile somewhere in Europe.
