DANGEROUS CROSSING
THE EONGOTEA FATALITY
A CORONER’S SUGGESTION

A fatal railway crossing accident occurred at the Riongoiea road crossing at Longburn on 16th. January, when a. motor car driven by the Rev. Mr Tremain, an Anglican minister at Rongotea. was struck by the northbound New Plymouth express. Mr Tremain died of his injuries.
At the Colonial inquiry to-day evidence was tendered by the driver and fireman to the effect that the mossing was a. bad one, because a belt of trees obscured the view of both the driver of the engine and the road traffic. The trees were now being removed Tiiis was the second fatal accident at this crossing within a fortnight. The Coroner expressed the hope that the Department would endeaour to have the trees -removed at all crossings SO. to vninimsie tbb danger of collisions.
