A BROOM HANDLE

TO SETTLE A G RUE VANCE

EXCITEMENT AT TAUAIARIJNUI,

A broom was the instrument used, and the scene was the alleyway leading from the main street to the old Strand. Theatre in Tanmaruinii. The result was that a visitor from Auckland, formerly well known m Taumarunui, was taken do the doctor with a scalp wound that needed the insertion of stitches. It was early in the evening of Thursday when the peace and harmony of the people living in ihe vicinitv were disturbed hy any argument between two men. ’The conversation became louder and louder, and while one man was trying to explain away the alleged grievance the other siezed a broom handle and whacked him over the head with it. ’There was no further argument alter the blow had boon struck.

The. assailant walked quietly away, a motor car was commissioned, and the injured man was soon receiving medical treatment.
