Professor Joseph 1 Barcroft has been appointed Professor of Physiology at Cambridge, where ho was previously Reader in Physiology. He was made famous by the. carrying out ol a-daring experiment for the purpose of relieving tuberculosis. Locked in a alrge glass chamber, he remained a week, while the air was pumped out, enabling him to make a searching analysis of rarefied atmosphere similar to thati found in high altitudes. Professor Bareroft’s skin was blue when he emerged. The test satisfactorily settled his dispute with an Oxford professor who maintained that the 'blood possessed sullieipnt oxygen La compensate for loss of air.
