MOSCOW INTRIGUES.
ON INDIA’S BORDERS
(Aust, and N.Z. Cable). Loudon, Dec. 28,
The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan is now* in progress, but it is not regarded as a serious menace. It is thought that a small adjustment of frontiers along the 'River Oxus, dividing Bokhara and Afghan Badakshan, Avitl settle the dispute. . The Soviet’s policy is clearly to encourage nationalistic aspirations amongst the races along the northern boundaries of Afghanistan, which is acting as a buffer State between So-viet-controlled provinces and India. Britain is most freindly to tlie Amir Atnanullah of Afghanistan, to whom Britain, recently presented two aeroplanes, of which the Amir is very proud.
