FIRE ON SMALL STEAMER
CONSIDERABLE: DAMAGE (Per Assorfntmn ? Dai-garville, July 20. At, an. early hour thi s morning a fire was ‘discovered in the engineroom of the small steamer Pioneer* belonging to the Northern Vairoa Dairy Company. Fortunately, (here was* a deck hand on. board at the time, who immediately . gave the alarm to the lire brigade, who..turned out in double-quick time and cxitiguishcd the fire, but not before )t had done considerable damage lo the engine-room and men s rooms cn the boat. Tho amount of the insurance is nob available. It is expected it will bn some days before the steamer will be able to resume running. Meanwhile, a .standby steamer owned 'by the company ics doing the run on the river.
