Tin- men captured in Warsaw were thieves. Tlx* fight opened with plain clothes policemen approached a group of three thieves nil one of the principal streets. The hiUc r whipped out revolvers and fired point blank. They hit one policeman. The gunmen then dashed through the crowded streets followed J>y policemen on foot an<l mounted. One of tho gunmen turned and shot it policeman's horse dead.

The crowds rushed to shelter. Then one of the gunmen was brought down bv a lmllet in the head

The other two sprang into a horse call, Hinging the driver info tire roadway. Later they abandoned the cub and boarded a traincur, jumped oil' and ran into a doorway where one collapsed through loss of blood and the other surrendered.

Scores of pedestrians were wounded bv stray shots. Each ol the gang carried two revolvers nod two hundred rounds of ammunition.

It is believed they belonged to a gang of desperadoes who intended holding up a hunk later in the day.
