THEOSOPHICAL LECTURE

THE POWER LATENT IN MAN

A lecture was given in the Parish Hall last night on "The Power Latent in Man" by Mrs Sydney Butler, of .Christchurch, who drew attention to those law? in Nature that scientists did not explain. There must be laws governing the sending of one child to a shun, while another is born to comfort, and luxury. Why one person should havo splendid mental, ability while another should bo born mentally deficient was a mystery, to modern science. But there are- living in the world to-day scientists of the soul, who have developed spiritual faculties within them to such , a degree that they come in contact with the inner world where the soul dwells, and have learned at first-hand of the unexplained laws of Nature. They give the results of their investigations to. the world in the, game /way as physical ficjentists, offering them as a working hypothesis upon which .to build a noble and highly efficient life. These unexplained ]aws are. tlie laws of) reincarnation, cause and effect, growth, and self-sacrifice. The great difference between the genius and tho ordinary man is one of growth. The former has lived more lives than the latter and has unfolded the capacities within him to a greater degree. Tie also may have made better use of his time, for nothing is gained Without great effort. The genius has had lives of the drudgery of preparation before he developed. Just as surely thero lie within the sonl of each the powers of genius, of lofty noble character, of a divine sol f-saeri lice. We influcnco every person with whom we come in contact either for. good or ill. We reap what we sow. in this respect. We are but a little past the mid-most point in evolution, and have as far.to go on in development n;> we have attained in the past. The promise_of what we shall be lies in the attainment of our fellow-men who havo-developed to a greater degree than ouraelvoa the power, strength, and beauty which lie within lis all. By obeying tho law of harmony, which lies at the root of our .being, we bring into our lives health, comfort, ,-pence, joy love. Modern thought w being stimulated to a wonderful degree at She prowen/. time, and if we would advance towards the goal of perfection which v> set befote man we .shall Cake advantage of .the, forces which we see working around us for healing, helping, and comforting, and introduce them into our daily lives, p.q that we shall appear in the outer world tor what, we are.in reality in the inner world, a soul, with God-like qualities. , ... , ...

"Life After Death" is the subject of Mr?> Butler's final lecture this evening.
