; THE CANTATA TO-MORROW. The cantata, "Sherwood's Queen/' will be presented in the Tivoli on Thursday and Friday by the High ■ School girls, and play-goers and 5 music-lovers will jm doubt welcome • the opportunity of hearing the piece. - The scene is laid in Sherwood Forest . and the, story describes the romantic ) woodland marriage of Robin Hood, i the mythical English hero who w t as ; outlawed by the Norman King, tn ! Marian, the daughter of a Nottingham citizen. Marian, with her maid Alice, loses her way while 1 walking in: the forest and is rescued by Friar i Tuck, the pompous and self-indul- > gent yet withal kindly .and humorous ■ priest attached to Robin Hood's ■ band of "merrie men." The true I character of Robin Hood is revealed ! in the incident of his rescue from the Norman sheriff of the three brothers, i sons of a widow who ha.s appealed ■ for his assistance. The chief action oi ■• the piece indeed centres round this episode and leads up to the spirited choruses "Up, Up, Ye Merrie Men," and "We. .Dashed upon Nottingham Town." The romance centres round Robin. Hood, and these two characters are associated in some pleasing duets. An; element of comic relief is introduced in; bhed.'flir. tation of Alice with Will-Scarlett, while the humour of,Friar T,u c k ; pcrineateß most scenes., Among,}e&}| important characters, Little .InJjn,.
