WANGANUI J.O. STEEPLECHASE MEETING. For tlie Winter Meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club which commences to-morrow and will be continued on Saturday, the acceptances received are in every way satisfactory, and no doubt .there will be a large attendance at this popular winter fixture. A special train will leave, Feilding at 7.51 a.m., and return again after the last race, leaving Wanganui racecourse at 4.30 p.m. For the different events tho following horses should run prominently:—Borough Handicap, 6 furlongs. —Orshid of Birkie. Puru Hack, 1 mile 110 yards.—Left or Mort Avis. Kaitoke Hack Hurdles, 1J miles. — Ladogeur or Halcyon. Hack Steeplechase, 2 miles. —Master Boris or Kato. Connolly Handicap, 1 mile and a distance.—Correspondent or Eere. Wanganui Steeplechase, about 3 miles. —Maniahefa or Omalidu. Century Hurdles, 2,1 miles.—Simonidos or Alteration. NOTES AND COMMENTS. The Auckland horseman H. Turner is to ride Killard in the Great Northern Hurdles. Tho Hon. O. Samuel and Mr L. A. Nolan are to represent the Taranaki Jockey Club at the forthcoming New Zealand Pacing Conference. The two yearlings, one by Shepherd King, and the other by Tressady, recently purchased in Australia, by Mr G. D. Greenwood, have arrived at Iticcai ton.

Gamecock and Cliquot are to bo ridden in their Wanganui engagements by J. It. Kaan. Handicapped at 9.12, Maniahera must, have a good chance in the Wanganui Steeplechase. The well known Australian horseman, W. H. McLachlaii, is now on bis way to England, where he intends following his profession. During his career in Australia ho has ridden 550 winners including, 29 Cup events. S. Henderson will pilot Coroglen in the Great Northern Steeplechase. E. Warner’s license has been suspended by the Egmont R.C. for three months for careless riding at its recent meeting. After the running of the Manawapou Hurdles at Hawera an inquiry was held into showing made by Volo. After hearing evidence the Judicial Committee, while expressing themselves as not being entirely satisfied, decided that the evidence, did not warrant any further action being taken. The curtailing of the issuing of complimentary tickets by the Egmont Racing Club' resulted in £IOO more being taken at the gates this season than last.

The Sydney Sportsman is responsible for the statement that an offer in the neighbourhood of £17,000 had been received from the Argentine for Eurythmic for stud purposes. The Hastings jockey, C. J. Stowe, recently had to file a petition in bankruptcy, owing to an unfortunate speculation in house property. The four-year-old mare Bebohead. by Birkenhead —Bcbe. has finished her racing career, and will be sent to the Waikanne stud, Air I. G. Duncan having secured her from Mr H. 11. Fisher. The Southland R.C. made a loss of over £2OO over its autumn meeting last month. It is announced that three yearlings purchased at the Randwick sales were secured on behalf of Victoria’s State Governor, the Earl of Stradbroke.
