CANTERBURY MARKETS. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, May 16. The grain and produce markets are practically unaltered from the weekend report. A grade Garton oats are worth 2s 5d to 2s Gd at country stations, B’s from 2d to 3d less. White clover is firm. Good clean farmors’ seed is selling at Is 4d to Is Gd por lb. The cowgrass market is quieter, but quotations are unaltered—from lOd to 12d. Partridge peas are also firm. Good lines are worth 8s to 8s 3d to farmers. Potatoes are still depressed, but tho bulk of opinion is that a decided firming is probable. -The South Canterbury crop is not turning out so satisfactorily as was expected. Cocksfoot is still firm at a basis of 5Jd to Gd to farmers, sales at that figure being froquent for July and August delivery. Onions have firmed, and arc worth £6 to growers. A fair amount of business at that figure has been done. The supplies in local growers’ hands are shortening. The local crop is more marketable this year, being a much hotter sample than for some seasons, showing better keeping quality.

AUCKLAND WOOL SALES. GOOD PRICES. FOR FINAL OFFERING. Auckland, May 16. The fourth and final wool sale for tlie season was held to-day, a total of 2988 bales being offered to a full of buyers. Competition, was extremelv keen, and bidding was spirited from the opening. Prices for all wool showed a substantial advance, compared with the March sale. The most pronounced increase was in lambs which showed an increase of lid to 2d. Medium and coarse crossbred, which constituted the bulk of the catalogue, showed an increase of lid, inferior crossbred Id, fine crossbred id, pieces id to 3d. The wool was somewhat uneven m quality, including a largo proportion of seedy and inferior, though some bright, ‘ good quality clips were included ; the offerings, could be .classed as average quality for a finaU sole. Of the total offering of 2958 bales, 98 per cent was sold, most of tlie wool being for overseas buyers.
