Mr R. Roake has handed in his resignation as master of the Dannevirko -hounds. It is stated, and genearlly accepted in the Tuatapere district (Southland) that a well known resident is a first cousin to Viscount Lascelles, who recently married Princess Mary. His surname is the same, and he is said to claim the relationship mentioned. Paddon, the winner of the world's sculling championship at Wanganui, is a married man with a wife and five children. As he stated at the reception, although he was proud of being the holder of the world'- championship, he was getting on in years, and thev would have to dig tip a better man in Australia to hold it. Sir Joseph Ward celebrated his sixty-fifth birthday on Wednesday ■last. Dick Arnst, the ex-champion sculler, who returned from Australia by the Ulimaroa this week, is at present in Wanganui. A Sydney cable states that the Hon. W. Downie Stewart and Mr Montgomery sailed from Sydney yesterday by the Moeraki on their return to New Zealand.

Mr Clyde A. dimming, 8.A., who has been on the. secondary staff of the Masterton District High School for the past seven years, has been offered and has accepted the position of headmaster of the Waipawa District High School. Mr dimming was educated in Australia, and after finishing his training as a teacher he spent a year at Hawkesbury College studying agricultural science. Mr C. E. Short has given in his resignation as Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Palmerston North electorate, after having held these offices continuously for the past 22 years. The Prime Minister will visit Samoa next month, but he has not yet announced his arrangements definitely. He has not very much time at liis disposal since he must be back in' Wellington before the opening ot Parliament at the end of June. The following nominations have been received by the secretary for the Bunnythorpe School Committee election:' Messrs A. Hyde, W. Maxwell, J. Cook, L. Pascoe, D. Tennant, J. H. Dixon, C. Powell, J. Scheldt; J. H. Fowler, A. O'Donnell and A. H. Beadley. Tho Rev. George Budd, superintendent of Presbyterian Homo Missions, left Auckland yesterday to open a new church at Pio Pio, King Countrv. Then he goes to Otago.
