A period of over three decades has slipped since Carbine met with his hea.d defeat in the V.R.C. Derbj Many reasons operate serving to keep that sensational event in me-mory,-but to those who have followed, closely Carbine and his descendants the paramount thought is that tne loss of the Derby prevents what would have been a highly attractive table, with Carbine heading the Derby list. As is well known Carbine begat a Derby winner in Wallace, who also had %hs> distinction of siring a Derby winner (Amberite) in his farst eeason, and subsequently Wallace claimed no less than six other winners j)t the V.R.C. Derby, viz., F.J.A. Lady Wallace-, Mountain King, Wilari, Wolawa, and Patrobas. Wallace's record stands by itself ac the Derby is concerned.
