Paris, Sept. G. A French communique says: Our batteries in the Champagne are dominating the enemy artillery, which is particularly violent. In the sectors of Butte Dv Mesuil and De Massigncs we vigorously shelled the enemy front lines, preventing any attack. The enemy bombed Dunkirk, wounding civilians. French aedoplanes bombed an aerodrome, a railway station, and many bivouacs . GERMAN CLAIMS, A wireless German official message says: English attacks on the Ypre.s-Poelcappelle-Zonnebeke road and a French attack northward of Rheims failed. We downed 14 airmen. ATTACKS ON ARMENTIERES. London, Sept. 7. Sir Douglas Haig reports: There has been more heavy rain. Wo slightly advanced our posts south-west of Lens. We repulsed a counter-attack with considerable enemy casualties. The enemy twice attempted to raid us eastward of Armentieres. The second attempt succeeded, in entering our ternehes, but the ivader was immediately ifl'iven out. We carried out local attacks on strong points northward of Frezenburg, making some progress. The enemy heavily .shelled Armentieres. HUNS KILL HUNS. Hostile air raids on Tuesday night hilled '17 German prisoners and wounded 53 others. FORCED BACK TO THEIR LINE. (Received September 8. 9.45 a.m.) \ London. September 7. ■Sir Douglas Haig reports: We rushed a hostile peat westward of Tafata and repulsed raids near Lens and Armentieres. Strong counter-attacks northward of Frczenherg against the positions we gained yesterday compelled us to return to our line.
